In addition to re-conditioning the skip hoist drum shaft assembly above, SLM also reconditioned the gear reducers, brakes, pinion shafts and the lilly controller. The skip hoist is the heart of the blast furnace, and is a very integral part of the steel making process. The function of this hoist is to load the blast furnace with material used to produce steel. This hoist, which is pictured below, is the largest skip hoist in the United States and possibly in the world.

The next step for SLM will be to supervise the installation and set-up of this hoist on site in Gary Indiana. When this project is completed this hoist will be in operation 7 days a week, 24 hours a day.

SLM has been building skip hoists for the steel industry since the 1940's, and is the industry expert in that field. We provide complete tech rep assistance for installation and setup, along with on site evaluation service to determine the extent of repairs needed to prevent costly downtime between furnace relines.
